The starting point of my project began with reading the book Moby Dick by Herman Melville. I was especially taken by the theme of the Ocean in Moby Dick and the depiction of the connection between man and sea.

I began dealing with the ocean as something that cleanses the soul and started researching Christen baptizing. I also researched sailors and fishermen's clothes from Melville's time until know and infant christening clothes. In meshing the two together I created my silhoettes and choose my textiles.

I wanted to create a cleansing effect. I created a metamorphosis; from wool to lace, from heavy knitting into lace. Work clothes or Day clothes that transformed into something more delicate even spiritual.
